The Hometown Hero Banner Program is designed to honor veterans. The City Council adopted the program in September 2019, notating that Veterans make up nine percent of Vacaville's population and that through the action of creating a program, the City commemorates the military service of the honorees.

A pilot program was launched, and the banners were flown on Peabody Road as it is the main thoroughfare between Vacaville and Travis Air Force Base. However, the City quickly realized the banners and brackets were no match for the high winds along that corridor.  Program champions, City Council Members, and City staff worked together to relocate the banners to Merchant Street near the Vacaville Veterans Hall.

The Hometown Hero Banner Program provides the opportunity for a member of the public to nominate a veteran to be recognized on a public military banner, and have it displayed on city light posts, to commemorate the service of a Hometown Hero.

Banners are installed twice a year - May and November.

To register a Hometown Hero, complete the following application. This program is on a first come, first serve basis. All qualified applicants will be added to a running waitlist.
