What is the Non-Functional Turf Ban?

California’s Assembly Bill 1572 (2023) bans the irrigation of non-functional turf at government facilities in 2027, commercial, industrial, and institutional (CII) properties starting in 2028, and in HOA common areas / common interest developments beginning in 2029. The City of Vacaville is responsible for implementing water conservation measures outlined in Assembly Bill 1572 as well as complying with California Water Code Section 10608.12 and Section 10608.14.

This ban does not apply to residential properties.

What is Non-Functional Turf?

Non-Functional Turf (NFT) is a grass area, often found in urban landscapes, that is primarily decorative and not used for recreation or other practical purposes. Essentially, it's grass that's there for looks, not for recreation, events, or any other functional activity.
