Smoke Testing
Work related to the City of Vacaville’s ongoing sewer system evaluation study will begin on August 12, 2025. This work will be used to identify areas of the City where rainwater is entering into the City’s sanitary sewer collection system and prioritize areas for future improvements.
Due to unforeseen equipment related delays, the City paused sewer smoke testing after the first day and is anticipated to continue August 25 to 29, and September 8 to 11.
The crews performing the investigations will be “smoke testing” the City’s sanitary sewer collection system as part of this work. The smoke is a stainless, non-toxic product, has a distinct odor, but not unpleasant, and is light gray to white in color.
No interruptions in water or sewer service will occur during these activities. Crews performing the work will be wearing City of Vacaville badges. Smoke should not enter your premises unless there is a dry trap in your floor drain or any unused plumbing fixtures. If smoke enters your home, please notify the City of Vacaville – Utilities Department at (707) 469-6400.
