    Project Overview

The City of Vacaville Utilities Department is undertaking the Well 24 Project to replace the existing Well 5 which has reached its useful life expectancy. The well are needed to ensure continued reliable water supply.

    The well is expected to:

    • Ensure redundancy and support sustainable water management.
    • Help maintain stable water levels supporting the overall health of our community.
    • Have excellent water quality, meeting all state requirements (including recently adopted hexavalent chromium limits).

    24-Hour Operations

To minimize overall project duration, maintain safety and efficiency, and avoid repeated mobilization, certain critical activities will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Further, the drill will bore through subterranean clay formations that require 24-hour operations to prevent equipment from getting stuck if the clays swell. These include drilling, borehole reaming, and continuous test pumping to ensure the well meets performance standards before permanent installation. Nighttime operations will only occur when absolutely necessary.

    Post Construction

Following completion of drilling operations, the newly drilled Well will be connected to the existing infrastructure present. The work involves above ground piping, installation of conduit, and extension of the current fence to the new location of the Well. No discernible noise is expected to be generated from the ongoing operation of the well pump.
