Project Description

The Malaquias Montoya Center at De Colores Park, was approved by the City Council on July 23, 2024. The project site consists of approximately 4.1 acres of City-owned property located at the corner of Brown Street and East Monte Vista Avenue. The park will be constructed in two phases:

• Phase 1: The City would construct a playfield, multipurpose sports court, two playgrounds, two picnic shelters, a jogging path, and a central plaza/gathering area, splash pad, a mobile TV screen with up to a 26 ft. diagonal width with sound system, and a 600 sq. ft. outdoor stage. This phase would also include a 2,500 sq. ft. single-story Recreation Center with a floor plan for a commercial teaching kitchen, restrooms.
  
  Lastly, the site would include lighting, landscaping, parking for 16 spaces, and a new masonry wall along the north portion of the site abutting the existing residential homes.
  
  
• Phase 2: The City would construct a 10,000 sq. ft. Housing and Community Services building, with additional landscaping, lighting, 29 parking spaces, and masonry walls along the northeastern corner of the site.
