The City Aide Program is a partnership between the City of Vacaville and Solano Diversified Services (SDS). Interested individuals can fill out an online interest card through the City of Vacaville website.  Submissions are screened by SDS to verify eligibility and determine the best matches for each assignment. SDS refers the individuals to the City of Vacaville for potential assignment placements. City Aide Program assignments are limited and submission of an online interest card or verification of eligibility does not guarantee placement in an assignment. 

Individuals placed in a City Aide Program assignment are employees of SDS and are limited to a maximum of 1040 hours per assignment. A job coach will train beside each participant and will gradually reduce their time at the assignment as the participant meets performance standards. 

An individual's participation in the program may be terminated at any time by either the individual, SDS or the City of Vacaville. Participation in the City Aide Program does not guarantee or amount to any promise of employment with the City of Vacaville. 

To qualify for consideration for an assignment in the City Aide Program, an individual:

1. Must actively be receiving services from North Bay Regional Center (NBRC)
2. Must be at least 18 years of age
3. Must demonstrate a willingness to work in the community and learn new work skills
4. Must meet the qualifications and requirements of the assignment
5. Must pass, at a minimum, a California DOJ/FBI live scan and physical, as required

Solano Diversified Services (SDS) will complete the initial intake and screening of interested individuals for all City Aide Program assignments. Individuals must receive approval from the Department before being placed in their assignment.

An online interest card must be completed and submitted via the City of Vacaville website to be considered for eligibility for the City Aide Program. Solano Diversified Services (SDS) will complete the initial intake and screening of interested individuals for all City Aide Program assignments. 

Online interest cards are processed by SDS as they are received. Individuals may progress through the intake and screening process in varying timelines. City Aide Program paid assignments will be filled as individuals are referred by SDS and departments approve the placement. 

Information needed to complete the Online Interest Card: Full Name, Date of Birth, Address/Contact Number/Email Address and North Bay Regional Center UCI Number. 

Online interest cards will be accepted starting October 15, 2025, and will remain open on a continuous basis until all assignments are filled. Please note that the City of Vacaville may close submissions at any time without prior notice.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Manual tasks such as loading and unloading materials and equipment; 
• Digging and covering holes and trenches; 
• Operating weed-eaters, lawnmowers, and other power tools; 
• Weed abatement;
• Litter collection;
• Utilize small utility terrain vehicle on park roads (Does not include City trucks/vehicles);
• Assisting skilled workers in general maintenance operations;
• Cleaning and servicing equipment;
• Cleaning buildings (including bathrooms) and parks.

Qualifying abilities: Safely use standard tools and equipment associated with the work described above; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; work independently on routine tasks; ability to keep accurate records; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including the ability to provide excellent customer service to the general public while representing City of Vacaville.

Physical and Sensory Requirements: Must be physically capable of sustained standing, and walking, bending, kneeling, twisting and squatting. The work has a lifting requirement that may range from 40-100 pounds, depending on area of assignment. City Aides work outside with exposure to weather, odors, dust and pollen. The work requires the ability to hear and distinguish various sounds, such as alarms and sounds of operating equipment in both quiet and noisy environments; the ability to see well enough to read documents and instructions; and hand and finger dexterity sufficient to use small tools.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with program activities as needed;
• Interacting with participants in arts, crafts, games, and sports;
• Checking in participants;
• Interacting with the general public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities;
• Providing reception, customer service, recordkeeping, housekeeping and cash handling duties; 
• Opening and closing facilities;
• Assisting with set-up and take down of equipment, materials and supplies;
• Assisting in office setting with shredding, data entry, filing, answering phone, greeting the public, other duties as needed.

Duties by Program Area
Adult and Youth Sports – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s):  site facilitation, score keeping and/or equipment management for various sports such as softball, volleyball, tennis, t-ball, skateboarding, flag football and basketball; assisting program activities as needed; interacting with youth and participating in arts, crafts, games and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; opening and closing facilities.
 
Concessions – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include: taking orders for food or beverage, presenting prices and packaging options, processing payments, operating food preparation equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe and sanitized work space. 
 
Gymnastics – Approximately 10-12 hours per week
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s):  assisting with program facilitation; aiding with program activities, interacting with youth and young adults in programs, recreation classes, special events, camps, and open gyms; and equipment management.
 
Special Events – Hours per week may vary
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s):  interacting with the public and vendors participating in recreation and community activities; assisting with activities as needed; facilitating arts, crafts, games and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with large equipment (stage and booth) set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities.  
 
Therapeutic Recreation – Approximately 8 hours per week
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s):  assisting with programs and classes for individuals with disabilities including Sensory Room, Bowling and various other classes.  Aiding with arts and crafts, games, and other activities. Assisting with onsite program support and program participants, performing participant check-in, assisting with equipment set-up, take down and housekeeping. Assisting in office setting with shredding, data entry, filing, greeting the public, other duties as needed Knowledge and experience with the special needs population is preferred.
 
Youth Services – Hours per week may vary 
Duties may include, depending on program assignment(s):  assisting with program activities as needed; interacting with youth in arts, crafts, games, and sports; performing participant check-in, reception duties and cash handling duties; assisting with equipment set-up, take down and housekeeping; opening and closing facilities.

Qualifying abilities depending on assignment: Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; relate well with members of the public including youth and their parents; demonstrate professional customer service and conflict resolution skills; understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; use sound judgment;  lead and teach participants with minimal supervision; demonstrate leadership skills, responsibility, reliability, enthusiasm, and creativity; work in a busy environment; handle money accurately; maintain appropriate records; perform simple mathematical calculations; perform physical tasks associated with the job; work with little direct supervision once tasks are learned; exercise initiative and take independent action; understand age-appropriate behavior and discipline; and perform routine clerical work.

Physical and Sensory Requirements: Work may require sitting and standing; working both indoors and outside with exposure to heat, sunburn, weather, odors, dust and pollen; select positions may require moderate lifting up to 75 lbs. and carrying, bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, pulling and pushing up to 75 lbs. Work emphasizes speech, hearing and vision. Select positions may require hand and finger dexterity sufficient to use computers and standard office equipment to perform assignments. Select position may be assigned to work night and weekend hours.
