National Environmental Policy Act Environmental Review
The National Environmental Policy Act is a federal law that requires environmental reviews for projects that receive federal funding. These reviews ensure that environmental factors are carefully considered before a project begins and that appropriate steps are taken to protect the health and quality of life of our community and the natural environment.
The City of Vacaville serves as the Responsible Entity for NEPA reviews within our jurisdiction. This means the City is tasked with evaluating environmental impacts and ensuring compliance with NEPA requirements for federally funded projects carried out locally.
The Housing and Community Services Department leads this process on behalf of the City. The Director of Housing and Community Services has been formally delegated the role of Certifying Officer, which authorizes them to review and approve NEPA determinations and environmental findings.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you're applying for or receiving federal funds through a City administered program, such as Community Development Block Grants, HOME Investment Partnerships, or other HUD related programs your project may be subject to NEPA review.
The City will guide you through the process and provide resources to support environmental compliance.
