    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most impactful technological advances of our time. While AI has the potential to improve services and processes across our government, we must also be mindful of its associated risks. AI technology is rapidly evolving, and our policies and approaches must adapt accordingly. AI is not a future technology but a present reality that local government leaders must address to enhance services and better serve their communities.

    As we implement AI solutions, we must be open about how we use the technology and work to build public understanding and trust. While exploring AI's benefits, we must remain vigilant about data privacy and the responsible use of this emerging technology and ensure we are deploying the right tools in the right ways.

    In November 2023, the GovAI Coalition was established to give local, state, and regional governments a voice in shaping the future of AI and ensuring that AI development is geared toward the benefit of society. The City of Vacaville formally joined the GovAI Coalition and its commitment to responsible AI.

    The City of Vacaville is in the process of implementing a Technology Risk Management Program that will develop a Summary of Initiatives and Actions to deploy AI in the City.
