The Vacaville City Attorney’s Office serves as the City organization’s chief legal counsel. Our mission is to provide high quality, timely, and cost-effective legal services to the City Council, City boards and commissions, and City staff. In providing legal support to further the City Council’s goals and Strategic Plan we remain dedicated to our core principles: commitment to public service, zealous representation of the City, solutions through collaboration, and professionalism with integrity.
The office does not provide legal services to members of the general public.
The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council to:
- Provide legal advice to the City Council, City boards and commissions, City-related entities (the Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency, The Vacaville Housing Authority, and the Vacaville Public Financing Authority), and City departments and staff
- Review and prepare legal documents, including ordinances, resolutions, policies, contracts, deeds, and other legal instruments.
- Represent the City’s interests in various negotiations, administrative proceedings, civil litigation in state and federal court, and other legal matters.
- Review and analyze and manage all government claims in an effective and expeditious manner.
- Prosecutes and assists City departments in enforcing violations of the Vacaville Municipal Code.
- Oversee work done by outside counsel on behalf of the City.
