Silva, Michael
Michael Silva was elected to the Vacaville City Council on November 3, 2020, to fulfill a four-year term, and re-elected to fulfill a second four-year term on November 5, 2024.
Council Member Silva is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Department of Biological Sciences at Solano College where he focuses on balancing the development of skills to be academically, professionally, and personally successful.
Professor Silva grew up in Markham Heights of Vacaville and has diverse work experience that first began as a child working side jobs in landscaping with his father. Since, he has worked as a retail logistics supervisor, worked in the healthcare field for nearly ten years in clinics, hospitals, and emergency care, co-authored a study understanding how engineered neural stem cells migrate towards tumors to activate chemotherapy, worked in the biomanufacturing industry and various side jobs to help care for his family throughout their illnesses.
Mr. Silva attended Ulatis Elementary, Jepson Middle School, and graduated from Vacaville High School. After transferring from Solano Community College, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Cell & Development Biology from UC Santa Barbara and his Master of Science in Biotechnology & Bioinformatics with an emphasis in Stem Cell Technology & Laboratory Management from California State University, Channel Islands. He is continuing his education at UC Berkeley.
In 2018, Mr. Silva was elected to Vacaville Unified School District's Board of Trustees and served as President of the Solano County School Board Association and was elected by his peers to be a Delegate Assemblymember for the California School Board Association where we represented VUSD at the State level.
Professor Silva supports creating sustainable communities through innovation, entrepreneurship, and community to address the disparities that persist. In his spare time, he facilitates STEM hands-on outreach events, volunteers in youth sports, Scouts, and other community events and organizations, such as Alzheimer's advocate group. He enjoys eating street food, tailgating, working out with his family, and is always looking to meet new people.
