VACAVILLE, Calif. – The City of Vacaville Fire Department will conduct a multiple-day wildland training burn on June 8, 17, and 19 at Callen Hill. The controlled burn is anticipated to take place between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, weather permitting.

This training exercise is a critical part of ongoing firefighter education and preparedness, providing essential real-world experience in wildland fire suppression techniques. The burn will be conducted under carefully managed conditions, with strict safety protocols in place, and must meet stringent criteria, including weather parameters, smoke management, and fire safety lines. The planned operation is subject to last-minute changes due to these conditions.

“Wildfire preparedness starts with hands-on training and proactive risk reduction,” said Frank Drayton, Fire Chief of the Vacaville Fire Department. “This training burn gives our firefighters the opportunity to strengthen critical response skills while helping clear hazardous vegetation that could fuel a seasonal wildfire.”
What Residents Need to Know

• Smoke and Flames Visible: Residents in the area may see smoke and/or flames during the operation. This is expected and not a cause for alarm.
• Public Safety: The area will be clearly marked, and access will be restricted to authorized personnel only.
• Health Advisory: Individuals with respiratory conditions may wish to remain indoors and avoid the area during the burn hours.

This effort is part of the city’s proactive fire mitigation strategy and is supported by environmental and public safety agencies.
