City of Vacaville to Host Free Digital Literacy Courses in Collaboration with Tech Exchange

VACAVILLE, Calif. – The City of Vacaville is proud to partner with Tech Exchange to host a series of Free Digital Literacy Courses for Vacaville residents beginning this month.

These hands-on courses are designed to familiarize participants with the digital space and expand skills and access to technology. Courses are targeted to specific community demographics, including seniors, teens, Spanish-speaking adults, and low-income residents.

Participants will receive in-person instruction in a supportive classroom environment meant to build confidence using computers and the internet. Each participant will be provided with a computer for use during the course, and individuals who complete the full program will be able to keep their laptop at no cost, including one year of free tech support.

The courses are completely free for Vacaville residents and are offered on a strictly first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited. Courses will cover: 

  • Basic Internet Operation: How to navigate the computer, manage files, and master basic functions like typing and using a mouse.
  • Internet Browsing: How to browse the web safely, find reliable information, and access online services.
  • Email Communication: How to set up and use email to send messages, attach files, and stay connected with family, friends, and employers.
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals: How to protect information online, recognize scams, and use secure passwords.
  • Zoom Virtual Conferencing Fundamentals: How to join, host, and participate effectively in virtual meetings and events.

Course Schedule:

Seniors (Ages 55+)
Location: McBride Senior Center – Computer Lab
Dates: March 10, 17, 24, 31
Time: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Teens (Ages 16–18)
Location: McBride Senior Center – Computer Lab
Dates: April 3, April 10
Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Spanish-Speaking Adults (Ages 18+ | Spanish Language)
Location: Boys & Girls Club – Acacia Center
Dates: May 8, 15, 22, 29
Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Low-Income Adults (Ages 18+)

Location: Boys & Girls Club – Acacia Center
Dates: June 10, 11, 17, 18
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
