City of Vacaville Extends Application Period to Fill Nine Slots on City Commissions

VACAVILLE, Calif. – The City of Vacaville has extended the application period for residents to serve on the Planning and Parks & Recreation Commissions to Monday, February 9, 2026, 5:30 PM PST.

There is currently one vacancy on the Parks & Recreation Commission, with four current members on each commission reaching the limit of their term in March. View the current appointment list online.

City commissions are advisory groups to the City Council. By serving on a City commission, members will help plan the future of Vacaville by participating in the democratic process. Commissions are an avenue for obtaining citizen input by gathering, analyzing, and discussing information and determining the community’s sentiment on a variety of topics. Ultimately, each Commission makes recommendations to the City Council to take action.

To be considered, applicants must be 18 years old and reside within the incorporated limits of the City of Vacaville. Commissioners serve two-year, staggered terms.  If you are interested in serving on a commission, please complete an online application. It is highly recommended to upload a resume in addition to completing the application:

Planning Commission Application and Parks & Recreation Commission Application

Planning Commission members review new development projects and make recommendations on City planning issues.  A formal land-use planning education is not required, but members are expected to become familiar with the City’s General Plan, zoning ordinance, and legislation affecting planning.  The Planning Commission meets at 6:00 PM on the third Tuesday of the month, and at other times as announced (including the first Tuesday of the month, if needed).

The Parks & Recreation Commission advises the City Council on recreation and cultural arts activities.  The Commission meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM.
