Brenden Mann Foundation and Brenden Theatres Expand Mural Legacy to Vacaville with Spectacular Downtown Installation

Post Date:June 04, 2025 5:39 PM

VACAVILLE, Calif. – Downtown Vacaville welcomed a bold new artistic landmark this morning with the unveiling of a new mural fully funded by the Brenden Mann Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Brenden Theatres. This latest installation joins a growing portfolio of high-impact public artworks sponsored by the Foundation in downtown cores across California and Nevada.

The Vacaville mural—located on the Brenden Theaters—was designed and produced by John Horton and painted with the help of David Cho. Both artists were connected to this project with the help of Local Edition Creative and their nonprofit organization Three Thirty-Three Arts. The mural showcases Japanese inspired illustrative work that features a heroine traveling through different adventures and eventually crash landing on a planet, as depicted in the Vacaville mural.

Brenden Theatres has long been a catalyst for revitalizing downtowns and enriching communities through art. In Vacaville, their contributions extend beyond cinema—they are actively investing in the public realm, partnering with artists to beautify urban spaces and spark civic pride.

“Brenden Theatres doesn’t just operate in our downtown—they help shape it,” said Mayor John Carli. “Their vision and generosity through the Brenden Mann Foundation are making transformative, permanent contributions to Vacaville’s creative future. Our community is strengthened when private partners invest not just in entertainment, but in the creative soul of our city.”

Vacaville’s mural joins a broader artistic narrative crafted by the Brenden Mann Foundation in cities across California:

In Concord (2023), a large-scale mural on the Brenden Theatres building became a centerpiece of the city’s Creative Concord arts campaign produced by Local Edition Creative. The design incorporates bold colors and abstract figures to symbolize unity and cultural expression. It now serves as a destination artwork, helping to activate the surrounding district and support local businesses.

In Modesto (2024), the Foundation unveiled another dramatic mural at the entrance to Brenden Theatres on 10th Street. This piece merges cinema, community, and contemporary street art, reflecting Modesto’s rich creative heritage. The installation quickly became one of the city’s most photographed locations and a new icon in its downtown arts corridor.

Each mural is unique, yet collectively they embody the collaborative efforts of the Foundation, Local Edition Creative, and Three Thirty-Three Arts to uplift public spaces through curated, site-specific works by professional artists. Vacaville’s mural continues that tradition.

City of Vacaville’s Role and What’s Next

While the City of Vacaville served as a supporting partner, coordinating the unveiling and assisting with site logistics, the mural was 100% privately funded by the Brenden Mann Foundation. This project builds on ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Vacaville, marking the latest in a series of public art installations, with additional murals and creative activations scheduled for later in 2025.
